In an effort to reinvent themselves as a "new band moving forward," the Foo Fighters have announced that Josh Freese will officially join them as their touring drummer. This year, the band will play festivals as well as a few arena and stadium shows.
The band's eleventh studio album, Here We Are, rises above the rubble of two catastrophic setbacks. First, the untimely death of Taylor Hawkins, the band's beloved drummer, in March 2022 while they were on tour. Second, the passing of Virginia, Dave Grohl's mother, in August of the same year. These two people have been rock solid throughout his life, and the album is dedicated to them.
Greg Kurstin and the band themselves worked on the production of But Here We Are, which was released on June 2, 2023. In Hawkins' absence, lead vocalist and lyricist Dave Grohl played and recorded all the drum parts for the album. Among the most successful rock bands in Grammy history, Foo Fighters have won 15 Awards, including Best Rock Album five times. At the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, the band was presented with the inaugural "Global Icon" award. Upon reaching eligibility in 2020, they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame the following year, 2021.
In 1993, the members of the Swedish rock band The Hives came together in Fagersta. They were already well-known in Sweden by the end of the 90s, when the garage rock renaissance took hold in the early 00s. Reviews consistently rank them among the top live rock bands of the past 20 years, and their signature black-and-white tuxedos make them instantly recognizable.
The bands' sixth studio album, The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, released in August 2023 and marks the first studio release in over 11 years, since 2012's Lex Hives, marking the longest gap between two Hives albums. According to Rolling Stone, the album is a "a collection of 12 high-energy punk-ish songs reminiscent of their best work from the early 2000s", while The Skinny described the album as "a breathless exercise in how rock music should be played. It's fun, frenetic, and full to the brim with that trademark Hives humor".
